Why RFK, Jr. Needs to be Confirmed

OK, so he is not your normal HHS nominee. In fact, he may be the most unusual and unorthodox nominee to head the Department of Health and Human Services in the history of that government agency.

And that, more than any other reason, is why I think America needs RFK, Jr. as HHS Secretary.

It is no secret that the Democrat Party powerbrokers absolutely despise the son of Robert F. Kennedy, Sr. and the nephew of John F. Kennedy, Sr. The reason for their almost pathological hatred of him is simple: RFK, Jr. dared to buck the system, first by attempting to primary Joe Biden and second by endorsing Donald Trump.

Guess what? The party bosses have no one to blame but themselves.

If they had simply allowed RFK, Jr. to run in the Democrat primaries instead of spending in excess of $100 million to keep him off the ballot, one of two things would have happened. Either Kennedy would have withdrawn sooner rather than later after receiving negligible support or he would have garnered enough votes to scare Joe Biden into giving up his doomed-from-the-beginning campaign. In that second scenario, the Democrat Party could have nominated RFK, Jr. or chosen someone else – such as Gavin Newsom – well before their August convention, giving them adequate time to conduct a respectable campaign.

Instead, they made things so difficult for Bobby that he was forced to launch an independent bid for president and – when that failed to gain enough traction – throw his support behind Donald J. Trump. Meanwhile, the Dems realized they had to kick Geritol Joe unceremoniously to the curb after his disastrous debate performance while foisting a not-ready-for-primetime Kamala Harris on the electorate.

To no one’s surprise, voters weren’t buying what the DNC was selling.

To say that RFK’s refusal to kowtow to the Party elite didn’t set well with the aging dinosaurs that run the DNC is a gross understatement. Likewise, they were aghast that – left with no other alternative – he chose to abandon the Party of his father and uncle. When that happened, RFK became Public Enemy #1 in their myopic eyes.

How dare the heir to the Kennedy political dynasty demonstrate an independent streak? Didn’t he know that Democrats are not permitted to think for themselves? On the contrary, they are supposed to march in lockstep like Hitler’s Wehrmacht.

My friends, that devil-may-care independent streak is exactly what we need more of in our federal government, especially at the HHS… a behemoth bureaucracy if there ever was one.

Through Medicare and Medicaid, HHS controls the healthcare decisions of 170 million Americans. That is the very definition of P-O-W-E-R… and people with that kind of power are extremely reluctant to give it up. In fact, they will fight tooth and nail to keep it, demonizing and destroying anyone and anything in their way. So will Big Pharma, which makes billions in profits every year by cozying up to the swamp creatures in Washington who make healthcare policy.

So what if Kennedy questions the need for, let alone the efficacy of, vaccinating children for every conceivable disease? I mean measles, mumps, and polio are one thing, but is it really necessary for every preteen girl to receive the HPV vaccine?

I am not a doctor nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but I love the fact that RFK is willing to challenge the status quo by asking a few pointed questions and demanding a few honest answers. These days, doctors prescribe far too many drugs to far too many patients… and all Kennedy wants to do is look at healthier and cheaper alternatives to doping the general public while lining Big Pharma’s pockets.

Sure, some of his past positions were unconventional at best, but for every study claiming there is no link between childhood vaccines and autism, there are just as many that make a contrary and very compelling argument. Why not do some more research before insisting that the discussion is over, and the case is closed? What is the medical establishment afraid of?

As for Kennedy’s past and very controversial statements in support of abortion on demand, he seems to have come to terms with the moral and political implications. "I agree with President Trump that every abortion is a tragedy,” he told the Senate Finance Committee. “I agree with him that we cannot be a moral nation if we have 1.2 million abortions a year. I agree with him that the states should control abortion.”

Kennedy also backed President Trump’s position on mifepristone, a drug that is now used in two-thirds of all abortions.

"President Trump has asked me to study the safety of mifepristone. He has not yet taken a stand on how to regulate it. Whatever he does, I will implement those policies," Kennedy said.

“I'm going to – I serve at the pleasure of the president. I'm going to implement his policies," Kennedy added.

Apparently, that answer didn’t set well with Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), a longtime doctor who helped to create a free vaccination program for children in his state. After all, if Kennedy is right, then Cassidy is wrong. The same goes for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who had the audacity to question some of RFK’s out-of-the-mainstream positions while accepting $1.5 million in campaign contributions from pharmaceutical companies.

Personally, I would rather have RFK guarding America’s chickens than two foxes named Cassidy and Sanders. I would also prefer to see a greater emphasis on healthier lifestyle choices instead of pulling out the prescription pad every time Johnny or Suzy has a runny nose.
