Trump and the Trotters

Sorry, but I just can’t help myself. I simply love sports analogies.
Both athletes and fans speak an “international language” that cuts across every cultural, racial, and political barrier. And so, if you want to drive home a political point, using an illustration from the world of sports is often an effective way of doing so.
Since their inception in 1926, the Harlem Globetrotters have played more than 27,000 exhibition basketball games in 124 different countries and territories. During those 99 years, they have only lost 345 times. Their most frequent opponents have been the Washington Generals, who played the Globetrotters regularly from 1953 to 1995 and again from 2015 to the present.
I actually knew a member of the Generals, who after he retired from their team went to work for the New Jersey Department of Corrections as the Recreation Director at Bayside State Prison. He sure did have a lot of stories to tell about his days touring with the Globetrotters!
Once I asked him if the Generals had ever beaten Meadowlark Lemon and Curly Neal during his time with the team and he just shook his head no. Even though the Generals squad was comprised of some excellent former college players, there was simply no hanging with the Trotters.
And that, my friend, is the impression I get when I watch the Democrats in Congress (or the RINOs, for that matter) try to match wits with Donald J. Trump. I have heard it described as if they are playing checkers and he is playing chess… or perhaps a novice chess player is going up against Bobby Fischer, Boris Spassky, or Anatoly Karpov.
Take the recent presidential campaign for example. President Biden called Trump supporters “garbage”, so what did the master marketer do? He hired a garbage truck and went for a ride wearing a ubiquitous safety vest. Score one for Team MAGA!
Then, while Kamala Harris was spending her time hobnobbing with the Hollywood elite on the left coast, Trump took a part-time job at a McDonalds drive-thru. You talk about “super sizing” a photo op!
Since January 20th, the Trumpinator has delivered more body blows to the Democrat Party machine than Rocky Marciano in his prime. His nonstop executive orders have been like a flurry of left jabs and right hooks that have stunned Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries… leaving them dazed and bewildered while the referee calls for a standing 8-count.
To say that the DNC is on the ropes would be an understatement.
However, it would be foolish to count them out just yet for two very important reasons. First, the Democrats still have their surrogates in the mainstream media running interference for them. Second, there are enough liberal judges ready and willing to try to derail President Trump’s ambitious second-term agenda.
Thankfully, as long as he doesn’t get too overconfident and take his opponents for granted the way Muhammad Ali did with Leon Spinks or Mike Tyson did with Buster Douglas, the reigning heavyweight champion of the political world should remain undefeated for years to come.
