Now that the dust has begun to settle from Thursday’s outrageous and outlandish court decision, it is time to assess the damage (if any) and the effect the verdict will have on the fall elections. Not just the presidential race, mind you, but all the down ballot races as well.

Like most of you, I was hoping for the best but expecting the worst. And so, when the 12-person jury delivered 34 guilty verdicts – actually one guilty verdict spread over 34 almost identical counts to make the state’s case look more compelling – I wasn’t surprised. Angry, yes; but shocked, no.

My anger was soon joined by a sense of profound sadness: first, for President Trump and his family; second, for our judicial system; and third, for our country as a whole. Actually, I should stop using the phrase “as a whole” when referring to America, because at no point since the end of the Civil War in 1865 have we been more divided as a nation.

The truth of the matter is that I have more in common with the man in the moon than I do with the Progressives in Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco… and now you can add New York City to the mix. As a conservative and a constitutionalist, I believe in limited government, personal responsibility, law and order (and equal justice under that law), and the inalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Conversely, the socialists and statists that populate our large cities and most coastal areas prefer a “Big Nanny” centralized government that offers them cradle to grave care in exchange for their autonomy and personal freedoms.

The only freedoms the liberal left isn’t willing to fork over to Uncle Sam are the “right” to murder their own children in the womb, the “right” to assign their own gender identity, and the “right” to engage in every type of sexual perversion under the sun. Better add the “right” to demand a guaranteed annual income while the rest of us work our tails off to support them.

But back to “poking the bear” for a minute…

They say that people often resemble their pets or, at least, some kind of animal. If that’s true, Donald Trump’s strong bearing and hulking physique mirrors that of a grizzly bear and his golden locks remind one of a lion’s mane… and guess what happens when you mess with either? That’s right; you get clawed and mauled, chewed up and devoured.

I doubt that is what Alvin Bragg, the Soros-recruited and supported district attorney, had in mind when he indicted President Trump; nor do I believe that Juan Merchan, the handpicked and heavily compromised judge in the case, expected such a result. But if the $53 million that was raised within 24 hours of the guilty verdict – the vast majority of it from first-time donors, crashing Trump’s campaign website in the process – is any indication, the Democrats just woke a sleeping giant.

I am not talking about Donald Trump, because he was already awake. It is the American people, who despise injustice and readily embrace an embattled underdog, who are now paying even closer attention to the presidential race. They know when someone has been unfairly targeted by a weaponized Department of Justice and they are rallying to Trump’s defense in record numbers.

Bears can swat at a beehive and get away with it, but anyone else who tries will get stung over and over again. If I were the Democrats, I would get out the EpiPens.
