Happy 113th Birthday to America’s 40th president, a man who personified the American spirit. His clear sense of right and wrong, coupled with a world-class sense of humor, made him both likeable and effective. So did his unquenchable belief in the American people and the American dream.

I thank God for Ronald Reagan, and it is my privilege and pleasure to share some of his more famous quotes with you today.

“I favor the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and it must be enforced at gunpoint if necessary.”

“No matter what time it is, wake me, even if it’s in the middle of a Cabinet meeting.”

“Welfare’s purpose should be to eliminate, as far as possible, the need for its own existence.”

“Recession is when a neighbor loses his job. Depression is when you lose yours.”

“When you can’t make them see the light, make them feel the heat.”

“We must reject the idea that every time a law’s broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.”

“How do you tell a communist? Well, it’s someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an anti-Communist? It’s someone who understands Marx and Lenin.”

“The problem is not that people are taxed too little; the problem is that government spends too much.”

“Within the covers of the Bible are the answers for all the problems men face.”

“Latinos are Republicans. They just don’t know it yet.”

“Government is like a baby. An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other.”
