Summer of Love or Summer of Anarchy?

From Wikipedia…
“The Summer of Love” was a social phenomenon that occurred during the summer of 1967, when as many as 100,000 people, mostly young people sporting hippie fashions of dress and behavior, converged in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighborhood. More broadly, the Summer of Love encompassed the hippie music, hallucinogenic drugs, anti-war, and free-love scene throughout the West Coast of the United States, and as far away as New York City.”
Fast forward to 2020…
In the aftermath of the George Floyd incident, mass protests – some spontaneous and many others sponsored by Black Lives Matter – morphed into out-of-control riots that featured looting, arson, and violence against innocent people, businesses, and institutions. Initially fueled by pent-up racial frustration, things turned increasingly ugly as rampaging mobs took advantage of the situation to break windows, burn cars, loot stores, and destroy property.
Cities such as Minneapolis, Kenosha, and Louisville resembled war zones as people reacted to the murder of George Floyd and the shootings of Jacob Blake and Breonna Taylor by ignoring Dr. King's teachings and tarnishing his legacy. And in Seattle, rioters overran a police precinct and occupied the Capitol Hill section of the city for more than three weeks, declaring “CHAZ” an autonomous zone. Their illegal behavior was aided and abetted by Mayor Jenny Durkan, who told CNN’s Chris Cuomo that the city of 730,000 residents was experiencing a “Summer of Love.”
More like a Summer of Anarchy, Madam Mayor… and I fear the worst is yet to come.
Because of political pressure and public perception, then President Donald Trump declined to send National Guard troops to disband Seattle’s squatters and to stop the lawless looters in other major cities. And at a time when law-abiding citizens, because of COVID, were being told to shelter in place – and were being forced to wear facemasks virtually everywhere – BLM was given permission to gather en masse and to march facemask free.
In my humble opinion, we cannot afford to repeat either of those disastrous policies. I don’t care how the liberal mainstream media spins the narrative or twists the truth, illegal behavior must be met with force and fortitude. And no group – racial, ethnic or otherwise – should be offered preferential treatment to flaunt our laws.
Until and unless we adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards violent and unlawful behavior, we will continue to get more of it… plain and simple. Otherwise, as temperatures rise and schools let out, brace yourself for another Summer of Anarchy, this time on steroids.
Donald Trump couldn’t squelch the violence, and Joe Biden won’t even try.
