Scratching My Head Until It Bleeds

There are times when I scratch my head until it bleeds…

Simply put, some things so defy logic, common sense, and common decency that I can’t begin to comprehend the rationale behind them. For instance, ordering plain vanilla ice cream when black raspberry or chocolate peanut butter is on the menu makes no sense to me. Neither does living in a blue state with high taxes, cold weather, heavy congestion, and liberal politics.

But recently, the United States Congress – or more specifically, 148 Democratic members of the House of Representatives – did something that left my head spinning like Linda Blair in the Exorcist. Incredulously, they voted against the Detain and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Assault Cops Act, sponsored by Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ).

"There is no reason that an illegal alien who attacks our law enforcement should remain in our country; that shows zero respect for our rule of law or our institutions, and they will not be positive contributors to society," Van Drew said.

According to Van Drew, the bill would require illegal immigrants to be detained by federal authorities until they can be deported. It would also "create a new category for migrant inadmissibility" specifically dealing with illegal immigrants who were accused of assaulting police, Van Drew added.

Following the vote, which passed 265-148 with 54 Democrats joining the Republican majority, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer of Minnesota told FOX News that "House Democrats just voted to protect violent illegal immigrants over our brave law enforcement officers. Once again, the Democrat Party proves they are the most anti-law enforcement party in history."

Seriously folks, how much do you have to hate America – and police officers in particular – to vote against a bill that would deport illegal immigrants who assault law enforcement officers? Which begs a second question: On whose side is the Progressive wing of the Democrat Party? Is it law-abiding American citizens or illegal immigrants who commit heinous crimes?

Remember this when you go to the polls in November. Republicans “back the blue” and stand for law and order while Democrats support criminals and chaos.
