Pride Goes Before a Fall

Proverbs 16:18 reads as follows…

“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”

I suppose King Solomon was speaking from experience when he penned those words under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, because Israel’s mightiest, wealthiest, and wisest king started out well, but then pride got the best of him. Instead of following God’s decrees, he married foreign women from unbelieving nations who turned his heart towards false idols. Solomon even imported horses from Egypt to increase his military strength, something God specifically told him not to do. By the end of his reign, Solomon was a tired and confused man, full of regrets (see Ecclesiastes 2 and 12:8).

Likewise, Lucifer found out the hard way that God detests pride. That – not Adam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden – was the original sin. As one of God’s greatest created beings, Lucifer didn’t want to settle for second place. “I will ascend into heaven,” he declared in Isaiah 14, “I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.”

As self-deluded as Lucifer was, he somehow managed to convince a third of his fellow angels to follow his rebellion. Let’s just say that didn’t end very well as they were all booted out of heaven and cast down to the earth, where they await their final judgment (see Matthew 25:41 and Revelation 20).

So, what does all this have to do with the United States of America in 2024? Well, June is the self-proclaimed Pride Month, when members of the LGBTQ+ community spread their wings and declare just how proud they are of their particular sexual perversion. It doesn’t matter to them that God calls homosexuality an “abomination” in Leviticus 18:22… or that the Apostle Paul referred to same-sex relations as “vile passions” and “shameful” in Romans 1:26-27… or that I Corinthians 6:9-10 clearly states that unrepentant “fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, homosexuals, sodomites, thieves, covetous, drunkards, revilers, and extortioners” will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But Pride Month doesn’t stop with self-celebrations by the LGBTQ+ community. On the contrary, every straight American is constrained to join in the festivities. If you politely decline on religious grounds, you are labeled a homophobe and ostracized from polite company. In some cases, you can even lose your job, a well-deserved promotion, or some other societal perk.

From the White House to corporate board rooms to progressive school systems across the fruited plain, the “tolerant” left rears up its collective back against anyone who doesn’t embrace its unbiblical agenda. Heaven forbid you say something, write something, or believe something that is contrary to their Satanic ideology.

Fearful of the Progressive wing of his party and needing every liberal vote possible, President Biden has jumped onto the LGBTQ+ bandwagon with both feet. Not only did he host a Pride Month celebration on the White House lawn last summer – featuring a bare-breasted man who tried (unsuccessfully) to transform himself into a woman – but the Biden re-election campaign is planning to appear at more than 200 LGBTQ+ events in 23 different states this month alone while simultaneously launching a media blitz to attract LGBTQ+ voters.

Vice President Kamala Harris kicked off the “pride push” by greeting 150 LGBTQ+ activists in Los Angeles last weekend while First Lady Jill Biden made an unannounced appearance at a Pride festival in Pittsburgh. However, the culmination of Pride Month, at least as far as the Biden campaign is concerned, will be a huge fundraiser in New York City on June 28th where President Biden is scheduled to be the keynote speaker.

“You’d better believe it will be the president himself waving that rainbow flag,” said David Closson, director of Family Research Council’s Center for Biblical Worldview.

Closson said he was “not at all surprised” at the Biden campaign’s decision, even though it was a “pretty significant” investment. “President Biden has really presided over the most aggressive pro-LGBTQ administration that we’ve ever seen,” he explained, championing the Equality Act, pushing the “so-called Respect for Marriage Act that codified gay marriage” over the finish line and rewriting Title IX, “the legislation that’s supposed to protect women and girls.”

Now, before being miscategorized as a homophobe myself, let me state unequivocally that I love everyone regardless of their sexual preference. After all, just like the Apostle Paul, I consider myself to be the “chief of sinners” and if God can love a sinner like me, how can I refuse to love everyone else whether I agree with their lifestyle or not?

However, the point remains that I don’t celebrate my sins. On the contrary, I confess and repent of them and try my best with God’s help not to repeat them. And so, I don’t understand why the President of the United States, who is supposed to be a devout and practicing Catholic, is celebrating a behavior that his own church denounces.

I know, I know, because there are votes at stake and he’s running scared… just like he openly supports abortion-on-demand, another direct violation of Catholic church doctrine.

There once was a time when America and Americans celebrated normalcy, traditional values, and our founding Judeo-Christian principles. I pray that those days will return before it is too late and our country reaches the point of no return or experiences God’s judgment, whichever comes first.
