Hang in There... the Cavalry is Coming!

When I get discouraged by the way things are going in our country and by who is calling the shots in Washington D.C., it helps me enormously to lean on my Christian faith. Knowing that God is on His throne and is in complete control lowers my blood pressure a few degrees. So does the realization that nothing catches Him by surprise because He knows the “end from the beginning” (see Isaiah 46:10).

Likewise, I take great comfort in the words of the southern gospel song that says, “I read the back of the book… and we win!” I also take solace in the fact that “this too shall pass.” Nothing but God, His Word, and our souls is eternal, so why sweat the small stuff?

And then there are the political realities that give me a great deal of hope and even optimism. For instance, I am convinced that without the disastrous Jimmy Carter presidency, we would never have had the Reagan Revolution that gave us eight years of economic prosperity along with a rebuilt military and the demise of the Soviet Union.

In similar fashion, Barack Obama’s eight dysfunctional years in office gave birth to Donald Trump and the MAGA movement. And so, if the past is indeed prologue, the political debacle known as the Biden administration will usher in a rebirth of competency, conservatism, and common sense.

Holding on until it gets here is going to be a challenge, but it will be worth every headache and heartache between now and then. Just hang in there, my fellow Americans, better days lie ahead.
