Dear President Obama...
Tuesday, October 27, 2020
Dear President Obama:
I am NOT writing you today as a Republican to a Democrat or as a conservative to a liberal. Instead, I am writing to you as one American who cares about his country and its future to another.
I have been told that over the past several years, you have tried multiple times to talk Joe Biden out of running for President. In fact, some reports have you telling him, “Joe, you don’t have to do this.”
Mr. President, I don’t think that you dislike Joe nor do I think that you regret choosing him as your Vice President. On the contrary, it is because you held Joe in such high esteem that you selected him as your running mate.
However, I firmly believe that you are now realizing what the rest of America already knows: that the Joe Biden running for President in 2020 is not the same Joe Biden who campaigned alongside you in 2008… or even 2012. The years have taken their toll on Joe’s physical health and stamina, as evidenced by his inability to campaign for more than a few days at a time, after which he needs several days to recover. Meanwhile, President Trump is making the Energizer Bunny look like a slacker.
More importantly, you have witnessed first-hand how Joe’s mental faculties have rapidly deteriorated. Verbal miscues that used to be excused as just “Joe being Joe” are happening far more frequently. He stares and squints into teleprompters, desperately trying to recite the words his handlers have typed out for him in the largest font-size possible.
Mr. President, we all forget people’s names, but not the names of candidates we ran against as recently as 2012… or whom we are currently running against. Two weeks ago, Joe called Mitt Romney, “the senator, who was a Mormon, he was a governor, OK?” And just yesterday, he twice referred to his opponent this year as “George”, while his wife Jill winced and tried to whisper the correct answer.
I honestly don’t know if Joe is intentionally lying or experiencing severe memory loss (or both?), but he has repeatedly changed – or denied – his position on oil production, fracking, Social Security, Medicare, the Green New Deal, and countless other issues… all in the matter of a few weeks. And I’m sure you’ve noticed that he has developed a hair-trigger temper, angrily shouting at reporters (or anyone) who dares ask him more than a “softball” question.
Mr. President, it is time to put politics aside and to put America first. In your heart of hearts, I am confident that you realize that Joe is not capable – mentally or physically – of carrying out the duties and demands of the highest office in the land. Some skeptics say that he is a mere Trojan Horse, being used by the Democrat Party to get inside the gates of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue before revealing Kamala Harris as the true candidate. That kind of stealth campaign would undermine everything we, as a nation, stand for.
No, sir, it is time for someone of your stature to stand up and say what 330 million Americans already know: that Joe Biden must – for the sake of his health, his family, and the country – step aside. Yes, you will be heavily criticized by your own party and the mainstream media and probably ostracized for life. But historians would regard you as a true statesman, one who put country above power. Doing so would only serve to enhance your legacy, not detract from it.
And there are worse places to live in exile than Martha’s Vineyard.
Respectfully yours,
Dale Glading
