A Hurricane Over Warm Open Water

Where were you yesterday?

That’s a natural question to ask me since I’ve been writing a new blog post each weekday for the past 10 months and periodically for several years before that. Altogether, I’ve written and posted 538 different articles, each of which analyzed current events and other political issues from a faith-based perspective.

Hopefully, you have enjoyed, learned from, and possibly even agreed with some of them!

The answer to the “Where were you yesterday” question is simple: I was on my way home from Banff, Canada, arguably the most beautiful place in North America. My son Chris earned a free trip there through his company and when his wife’s passport didn’t arrive in time, he asked me to fill in on very short notice. And so, I wrote several articles in advance (as well as a week’s worth of my devotional messages), but eventually ran out of time before leaving town.

Even though it was hard to concentrate with a gorgeous 14,000-foot mountain outside my bedroom window, I did manage to follow the RNC in Milwaukee and watched most of President Trump’s rambling acceptance speech. Sadly, I didn’t get to see his opening – and very poignant – remarks about the previous week’s assassination attempt, which I heard was the best part. Oh well…

I also closely followed the attempts to dislodge President Biden from atop the Democratic ticket. As the pressure on Geritol Joe intensified, I got the impression that it wasn’t a matter of if, but when he would step aside… and I was right. Unfortunately for Joe, he waited far too long to make a graceful exit and so, his political biography will be highlighted – and deeply marred – by his stubborn refusal to pass the torch until he was forced out by the party elites and their deep-pocketed donors.

So, where does that leave the Democratic Party with their convention just four weeks away? The short answer is “in a state of total confusion.” Will they follow President Biden’s lead by nominating Vice President Kamala Harris, whose dismal approval ratings are extremely well-deserved? Or will they formally release Joe and Kamala’s pledged delegates and hold a truly open convention, risking the ire of Blacks, women, and other critical voting blocs?

Of course, the Democratic Party powerbrokers got what they deserved. They had no business nominating – and then hiding – Joe Biden in 2020 and throughout his first term in office. Likewise, they nominated a vice president based purely on identity politics, instead of intellect, experience and qualifications. And so, they find themselves stuck with a laughing hyena as their presumptive presidential nominee unless they decide to roll the dice and blow up the convention.

Either way – whether it is Kamala, Gavin, Gretchen, or Hillary – the Democratic nominee will leave Chicago at a serious disadvantage no matter how the MSM tries to portray it. Meanwhile, Donald Trump is gathering strength like a snowball rolling downhill or a hurricane over warm open water.

And Kamala’s hair doesn’t hold up well in the rain and wind.
